Inmate accused in death at Cahokia jail
CAHOKIA, Ill. — Authorities in southwestern Illinois say a 41-year-old Cahokia man is accused of killing another inmate while in jail.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that a St. Clair County judge on Monday set Mark Luster's bail at $2 million. Authorities say Luster is charged with first-degree murder.
Cahokia Police Lt. Dennis Plew says Luster was being held at the Cahokia jail when 25-year-old Timothy Johnson of Granite City was found unresponsive Sunday in the cell he shared with Luster and a third man.
Plew says Johnson died after an altercation but he didn't release details of what happened. He says the death remains under investigation.
