BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Now that the Democratic nominee for an open southern Illinois U.S. House seat has bowed out for health reasons, the question lingers about who will take his place on November's ballot.

Former regional schools superintendent Brad Harriman abruptly abandoned his campaign Tuesday for the 12th Congressional District seat. He cited a worsening neurological condition he says requires surgery but isn't life-threatening.

That leaves only Republican Jason Plummer on the ballot in the race for the seat being vacated by Democrat Jerry Costello.
