Marengo's Nance finalist for national award
Marengo athletic director Becky Weinhandl couldn’t have imagined the school’s softball team would become one of the top programs in the state when she hired coach Dwain Nance six years ago.
Marengo had previously won a number of regional championships, but Nance has helped elevate the Indians to the status of perennial state title contender.
The Indians took fourth in the Class 3A state finals in 2008 and won the state championship in 2011. It was the first team state championship in Marengo’s history.
