Peasley: Planting season a little off

It has been a hit-or-miss planting season thanks to sporadic rainfall throughout McHenry County.

Strawberries are ahead of season, and local nurseries report strawberry picking and sales are under way. Mary McCann, who operates McCann Berry Farm on Kishwaukee Valley Road with her husband, Robert, said their picking began Friday.

Farmers are harvesting alfalfa and winding up soybean planting. Lack of moisture in many parts of the county was a serious concern.
