Our view: Too many races are uncontested
We’re disappointed with the low number of competitive races that will be on the ballot of McHenry County voters on Nov. 6.
Monday’s deadline passed with no new candidates being added to the ballot by either the Democratic or Republican parties, meaning voters will have no choices in far too many local races.
The number of Democratic candidates especially is sparse. While McHenry County has been a Republican stronghold for most of its existence, Democrats have made strides in recent election cycles. The county as a whole even went for Democrat Barack Obama for president in 2008.
