Attorney to speak to seniors at Huntley library
An area attorney, whose firm specializes in long-term care planning, will address seniors at the Huntley Public Library's regular Senior Coffee event about arranging appropriate care and preserving assets.
Attorney Linda Strohschein, from the Strohschein Law Group, will discuss programs such as Medicaid and veterans benefits, including a review of basic qualifications, the application process, and planning options for seniors looking to plan for future medical costs.

Concerts in the park to begin in Huntley
Huntley's Summer Concerts in the Park will kick off with a performance by the Mary J. Harris Trio at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Deicke Park, 12015 Mill St..
The three-member jazz group mixes both old and new songs, including pop and classic jazz, for listeners of every generation. The band's lead, Mary Harris, was born and trained in the Chicago area. The Huntley Park District will host two other summer concerts at Deicke Park in July and August. The Huntley Seniors Club is sponsoring the June kickoff event.

Perkins Hall Players to present 'Stay Off My Property!'
The McHenry County Historical Society’s Perkins Hall Players will perform “Stay Off My Property! McCullom Lake 1940” at 7 p.m. Wednsday at the old Seneca Township Hall, on the southwest corner of Garden Valley and Franklinville Roads.
The program is free and open to the public.

McHenry library to host 'When I'm 64 ...'
"When I'm 64 ..." will be presented at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McHenry Public Library, 809 Front St. (Route 31), McHenry.
As people turn 65, they have decisions to make regarding their health insurance and prescription drug options. Representatives from Senior Services Associates Inc. of McHenry County and Centegra SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Programs) will help attendees make informed decisions at this time of transition regarding Medicare, supplemental coverage, prescription coverage, and other options.

Annual garden walk steps off in Woodstock
The 20th annual Woodstock Garden Walk will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Participants can tour six unique gardens for personal inspiration and take in landscaping around Woodstock's historic downtown district before or afterward.
Tickets – $15 the day of the walk or $13 in advance – can be bought at the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce, Golden Eagle Bank, Harris Bank, Home State Bank and Seasons by Peg in Woodstock.

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” starring Benjamin Walker, Rufus Sewell, Dominic Cooper and Anthony Mackie, opens in theaters.
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.
The movie is rated R for action violence.
Carell wants to find friend at 'End of World'
“Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” starring Steve Carell, Keira Knightley, Melinda Dillon, Melanie Lynksey, opens in theaters

Marengo library to host 'The Essential T.P. Barnum'
William Pack will present "The Essential T.P. Barnum" at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Marengo-Union Library, 200 S. State St., Marengo.

Cardboard Cup Regatta launches in CL
The 28th annual America's Cardboard Cup Regatta takes place at noon Saturday at Crystal Lake's Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Drive.
This is considered the championship of cardboard boat racing, with entrants building and racing boats for a variety of awards along a 200-yard course.
Gates open at 9 a.m. The rain date is July 7.

LITH airport to host pancake breakfast
The Lake in the Hills Airport Pancake Breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the airport, 8407 Pyott Road.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes buttermilk pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee.
The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.
Families are welcome to fly in, drive in or walk in. They will be able to watch aircraft that will be flying in and out for the event.
The airport is about 2 miles from Algonquin and Pyott roads.
Destination Safe Haven to host concert, craft fair
Destination Safe Haven Horse Rescue and Retirement will host a concert, craft fair and picnic on Sunday at the rescue, 1404 Busse Road, Marengo.
The craft fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the concert, featuring Trillium, will run from noon to 2 p.m. Trillium performs a mix of Celtic, folk, ragtime, bluegrass and Dixieland music.
There will be a $5 admission fee; those 3 and younger get in free. Food will be available for purchase, or participants can bring a picnic lunch.
The event also will include pony rides, a duck pond game and raffles.
All proceeds benefit the rescue.
