Two members of the Crystal Lake Police Department were promoted at a ceremony Tuesday in front of the City Council.
In front of a standing-room-only crowd at City Hall, Derek Hyrkas was promoted to police commander and Thomas Kotlowski was promoted to police sergeant. Both were sworn in by Mayor Aaron Shepley.
Hyrkas joined the department in 1995 and was promoted to sergeant in 2007.
Kotlowski has been a police officer in Crystal Lake since 2008. He will be a patrol sergeant.
