Red Cross advises caution as Illinois temps hit 90
CHICAGO – The American Red Cross is warning Illinoisans to take precautions as summer-like temperatures move into the state.
The temperature hit 90 in Chicago on Saturday and was forecast to be in the lower 90s on Sunday. The National Weather Service says highs are expected in the mid-80s to near 90 in central and southern Illinois on Sunday.
American Red Cross experts say signs of heat-related illnesses include nausea, dizziness, sweating and headaches. Those suffering from heat exhaustion or heat stroke should be moved to a cool place, given cool water to drink and have ice packs or cool wet cloths placed on their skin.
Red Cross expert also advise using sunscreen and avoiding strenuous activity.
