Patriotism runs generations deep in Harvard family

HARVARD – Former President Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same ...”

Bill Matteson’s family is following that idea to the letter. And as the nation celebrates the Fourth of July holiday, the Mattesons take time to reflect on the service they have provided to their country.

Matteson is a 76-year-old retiree, father of nine and grandfather of 21 who has seen his family participate in nearly every war America has fought.
