Gun sales surge
To the Editor:
Driving home from a meeting Monday morning (June 11), I heard on WGN radio that 40 people had been shot in Chicago over the weekend and five had died. Earlier this same morning, I had read one of the front-page stories in the Northwest Herald, “Local gun stores enjoying sales surge.”
The timing of the two stories bothers me. I know; I know – there’s no connection between the two stories. (I’ve been told over and over again: guns aren’t the problem; guns don’t kill people; more guns don’t kill more people; more guns in the hands of more people don’t kill more people).
Oh, and I nearly forgot: the first news item is about Chicago – the “other.” And the second is about McHenry County – “us.”
