Child seat safety check Saturday in McHenry

McHENRY – A child seat safety check will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the former Walmart parking lot near Route 31 and McCullom Lake Road in McHenry.

Safe Kids of McHenry County is sponsoring the check with support from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry Police Department and Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety.

Child passenger safety technicians will be available to educate and assist parents and caregivers with correct installation and use of child safety seats.

As of Jan. 1, every driver and passenger over the age of 8, front seat or back seat, is required to wear a safety belt. Children are required to be in a car seat or booster seat until at least age 8.
Professionals will be available to answer questions regarding child passenger safety recommendations and the new law.
