Fielder one of Sveum’s favorites
CHICAGO – Cubs manager Dale Sveum has worked with plenty of players during his 11-plus years coaching professional baseball.
But Sveum conceded one of his favorite players to coach was Detroit Tigers first baseman and Prince Fielder. Sveum spent six years with Fielder in Milwaukee, including the previous three seasons as the Brewers’ hitting coach. Fielder returned to Wrigley Field on Tuesday for the first time since signing with Detroit in the offseason.
“He’s just a guy that comes to the park every day to beat your butt and he’s going to play as hard as he possibly can every single night,” Sveum said. “He wants to play. He loves to play and he loves to win and compete, let alone he’s just one of your favorite people. He’s got a great personality.”
