Boat crashes into pier along Fox River

FOX RIVER GROVE – A McHenry teen was cited for carelessness after crashing his family’s boat into a pier on the Fox River, sheriff’s deputies said.

Marine deputies from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 300 River Road in Fox River Grove at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday after a passer-by reported that a boat had hit a pier, according to a new release.

Deputies said they found the driver of a white and red 2008 Bayliner bleeding from the head while traveling north on the Fox River.

The juvenile reportedly was using his parents’ boat when he struck a pier along the east shoreline. The boater had no memory of the crash, was cooperative and didn’t appear to be fleeing, deputies said.

He was treated by members of the Barrington Fire Rescue Department and taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

The boat sustained more than $2,000 in damage.

Deputies do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, according to the news release.
