D-26 mulls prevailing wage

CARY – As School District 26 plans for some large capital projects, such as a roof repair, board members have been debating whether and how to adopt a prevailing wage.

The state Prevailing Wage Act requires that each year all public bodies – school boards, village boards and city councils, for instance – adopt a prevailing wage resolution and inform contractors that it is the wage to be paid for work done with public money.

The prevailing wage is determined by the Department of Labor through surveys reported by the county.
