5K walk-run to benefit epilespy foundation

WOODSTOCK – A 5K walk and run will be in memory of a young woman who died from a seizure disorder.

The Freunds for Life run and walk Sunday will honor the life of Cassie Freund. Proceeds will benefit the Epilepsy Foundation. The event will be from 7 to 11 a.m. at Emricson Park, 900 W. South St., Woodstock.

Freund died June 6, 2010, in her sleep from a seizure. She was 24.

She was diagnosed with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy when she was a young teenager. Her family was told that it was low level epilepsy, and that Freund likely would have an occasional seizure when she was sleeping.

Freund worked as a waitress at the Chop Suey Hut and the Circuit Clerks Office at the McHenry County Government Center.

Register online at www.epilepsyheartland.org. Registration is $30 a person. T-shirts and wristbands also will be available to buy. There also will be raffle prizes.
