Federal funds available in Ill. for tornado fixes

HARRISBURG, Ill. — Property owners affected by the deadly February tornadoes that raked southern Illinois are eligible for federal funds for rehabbing their houses.

Illinois Housing Development Authority spokeswoman Rebecca Boykin tells WSIU Radio that victims of the Feb. 29 storm that killed eight people in Harrisburg may apply for the funds to repair everything from roofs to electrical or plumbing issues.

Boykin says the process takes about four weeks from the time of the application to when the funds are received.
