Man dies following scooter crash

WAUCONDA - A 51-year-old man died Sunday after reportedly crashing his motorized scooter, according to the Wauconda Police Department.

Jack Mead, of Wauconda, suffered severe head trauma after losing control of the scooter Saturday night while trying to avoid a child near the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Oakdale Avenue, according to a news release. He was thrown from the bike and struck the pavement.

Mead was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he died the next day from multiple injuries, the news release states.
