Mercer County soldier laid to rest

SHERRARD, Ill. — A 25-year-old soldier killed while serving in Afghanistan has been laid to rest after funeral services in western Illinois.

WGIL Radio reports that services for Army Corporal B.J. Luxmore of New Windsor were held Tuesday at Sherrard High School, where he'd received his high school diploma seven years earlier.

Illinois Patriot Guard members lined the school's entrance to the service before leading the funeral procession to Hopewell Cemetery.

Luxmore was buried with full military honors. He's survived by his wife and son, his parents and a brother.
