To the Editor:

As a taxpayer in the state of Illinois, I feel it is important to let everyone know that the fastest growing segment of our population, those 60 and over, are facing devastating cuts to the Illinois Cares Rx program that assists low-income seniors and people with disabilities purchasing life-sustaining prescription medications.

Basically this piece of the program will no longer exist after July 1, and the more than 150,000 seniors who depend on this assistance will go without their prescription medications. This sudden and extreme elimination of benefits for a very vulnerable population will most surely put peoples’ lives and health at risk.
