Huntley talks up tax district

HUNTLEY – A firm contracted to develop a special tax district in downtown Huntley will soon start to draft redevelopment projects and estimate the costs, as village officials inch closer to revitalizing the downtown area.

The Village Board on Thursday signaled support for the Chicago firm Kane, McKenna and Associates to prepare a redevelopment plan for what likely will be Huntley’s second tax increment financing district. The district essentially would appropriate some level of property tax dollars from all of Huntley’s taxing bodies to the downtown.

The firm is expected to develop the plan by the end of the year. In April, the group finished an initial study that determined the village was eligible to create the special tax district covering the area between Main Street, Route 47 and Algonquin Road.
