Commission looks to clear court obstacles

WOODSTOCK – A commission created by the Illinois Supreme Court to make the justice system more accessible will have a McHenry County voice.

Chief Judge Michael J. Sullivan has been appointed to the commission, which will look into the hurdles that keep people from getting their day in court, such as the complexity of legal documents or transportation issues that prevent them from even getting to the courthouse.

“There are always people with disabilities, people with illnesses, people who live in the margins financially,” Sullivan said. “They stand in front of you like a deer in headlights; you can just see the fear in their eyes. Unfortunately, this is way too often.”
