County first in percentage of young uninsured

McHenry County has the highest percentage of uninsured children in the state, according to a report released Friday.

The report, “At a Crossroad: A Report on the State of Insurance Coverage in Illinois” by the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, comes as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to rule on the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The report found that 10.9 percent of people 18 years old and younger in McHenry County in 2009 were uninsured. The state average is 7.6 percent.
