Horse racing ‘exhibitions’ out

UNION – Horse races deemed exhibitions are no longer allowed at a Union training facility after investigators determined the owner violated terms of his previous temporary-use permit.

The alleged violation prohibits the owners for one year from obtaining permits needed to host the heavily attended events at Poker de Ases Ranch and Training Facility – 18718 W. Union Road.

Property owner Luis Mendez Jr. said he was notified of the punishment Friday by the McHenry County Planning and Development Department. An investigation was launched after neighbors complained that the May 27 horse races ran over the time allowed by the temporary-use permit.
