CHICAGO – The Blackhawks have selected Finnish left wing Teuvo Teravainen with the 18th pick in the NHL draft Friday.
A Helsinki native, Teravainen split last season between Jokerit’s junior and senior clubs. He also played for Finland at the 2012 Under-18 World Championship and finished fourth on the team with eight points in six games.
How soon he’ll contribute for the Hawks remains to be seen.
The Hawks are looking to return to the Stanley Cup finals after consecutive first-round playoff exits.
They fell to Phoenix in six games last season.
Teravainen , 17, registered 11 goals and seven assists in 40 regular-season games with Jokerit during the 2011-12 campaign, and added six points (2G, 4A) in nine postseason contests.
He also had 22 points (13G, 9A) and a +14 plus/minus rating in 13 games with Jokerit’s under-20 club.
