Driver takes out 3 utility poles

WOODSTOCK – A driver knocked down several utility poles, and walked away without a scratch from a crash that left some residents without power.

A pickup truck knocked down three utility poles in the 700 block of Washington Street shortly after 5:30 a.m. Friday morning. The man appeared to have lost control, said Lt. Michael Hill with the Woodstock Fire Rescue.

"It was weird from the get go," he said. "I've never seen three [utility poles knocked down] in a row. ... I've never seen damage like that before, and he walked away from it."

No one was injured in the crash. The unnamed driver was released from the scene, Hill said.

Residents along Washington Street reported they were without power from about 5:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. when ComEd restored power.

Woodstock police were unavailable to provide more information Sunday.
