Our view: Challenge met with new division

Congratulations to everyone involved in the first season of the Woodstock Little League’s Challenger Division, which offered league baseball for the first time in McHenry County for disabled youth.

Anyone who volunteers in youth sports or has simply been involved as a parent knows what a tremendous amount of work is involved in running a successful youth sports program.

For coaches in particular, baseball is one of the hardest sports to teach to young kids. But many adults know that it’s worth it. Someone took the time to teach them how to hit the cutoff man, or what the shortstop’s responsibility is when a ball is hit to the right side. As adults, they now are returning the favor, although it takes incredible patience.
