Taking off the Ritz

CRYSTAL LAKE – Wolf Camera & Image closed its doors at 5150 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake, in concert with a bankruptcy filing Friday by its parent company – Ritz Camera and Image LLC of Beltsville, Md.

The photography retail chain filed for Chapter 11 protection less than three years after emerging from its first bankruptcy. At that time Ritz Camera Centers Inc. filed Chapter 11 and auctioned off assets. RCI was the winning bidder and closed on the transaction in July 2009.

David Ritz, whose uncle founded the company and assembled a team of investors to buy the company’s assets, moved beyond selling cameras to photo imaging – producing calendars, memory books and DVDs using digital photos and video.
