Village president injured in accidental shooting
HEBRON – Hebron's village president, who is also a McCullom Lake police officer, has been released from the hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the foot.
Hebron police were dispatched to Frank Beatty's home just before 6 p.m. Monday; the McHenry County Sheriff's Office was called in to assist.
Undersheriff Andrew Zinke said that Beatty had the small-caliber handgun in his pants and when he undressed, the gun fell out, hit the floor and discharged, striking him in the left foot or ankle.
"Evidence at the scene was concurrent with statements that were made," Zinke said. "The bullet was at a low trajectory, like it had been shot at a low angle, and the bullet was recovered in a floor board."
Zinke said he was unsure whether it was a department-issued gun.
"All indications are that it was an accident," he said.
Beatty was the only person home at the time and no other injuries were reported.
