Algonquin considers truancy ordinance

ALGONQUIN – The village is considering whether to enact a truancy ordinance to make sure children are in school.

Both the school resource officer for Jacobs High School and the high school administration "feel that truancy is a problem at Jacobs, and their resources are limited to deal with this issue," Police Chief Russell Laine said in a village memo.

"When students are truant, they are not at home studying," Laine said. "The potential for increased illegal activity is present while they are freely 'walking the streets.' "
