62 kayakers rescued from Chicago River in storm
CHICAGO — Chicago police issued citations Sunday against two kayak tour companies after dozens of people had to be rescued from the Chicago River after strong storm winds capsized several crafts.
The Chicago Tribune reported police and fire department divers were called to the river's North Branch near Chicago Avenue just before 1 p.m. Officials eventually helped 62 people, including many children, from the water. There were no serious injuries reported.
Police cited Wateriders Kayak Tours and Kayak Chicago for violating restrictions on operating during hazardous conditions. Efforts late Sunday to reach representatives of the companies were not successful.
