Our view: Painful new fiscal year in Illinois
We’re just a few days into the new fiscal year for Illinois state government.
Saturday was the last day of the state’s 2011-12 fiscal year. To say it wasn’t a great year would be a monumental understatement.
The state’s backlog of unpaid bills stood at slightly more than $3.6 billion as of Tuesday, according to Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka’s website, ledger.illinoiscomptroller.com. That represents more than 163,000 unpaid vouchers.
