CRYSTAL LAKE - Traffic is being diverted around Main Beach in Crystal Lake after workers reportedly struck a gas main in the area, according to authorities.

Emergency crews have shut down the roadway near the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Dole Avenue. The beach is located at 300 Lakeshore Drive.

Park district workers were pulling up stakes used for the Fourth of July fireworks display when they discovered that a gas line had been punctured, according to Cmdr. Dan Dziewior of the Crystal Lake Police Department. Fire and police crews have blocked off the roadway in front of Main Beach, which has been closed to the public until repairs can be made.
