No-kill shelter fighting for its life

CRYSTAL LAKE – It took Napoleon – a Chihuahua and Shiba Inu mix – more than two years to find his “forever” home.

The foxlike canine suffered severe chemical burns on a large portion of his body before being abandoned in southern Illinois. He was to be euthanized until members of Assisi Animal Foundation found out about the pooch online and decided to rehabilitate him.

After much veterinary and daily wound care, Napoleon found respite with the Starjnski family in Marengo – a relationship that continues today, more than a year after adoption.
