Lawsuit filed against railroad after derailment

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — The son of a Glenview couple killed in a freight train derailment north of Chicago has filed a lawsuit against Union Pacific Railroad.

The wrongful death lawsuit accuses the company of negligence.

Wednesday's derailment threw 31 rail cars hauling coal off the tracks. Nearly all of them piled up on a rail bridge, causing it to collapse over a road between the suburbs of Glenview and Northbrook.
