West Dundee group pushes for new arts center

WEST DUNDEE – Friends of West Dundee’s proposed Fox Performing Arts Center have organized to meet the village’s request to demonstrate local support for the creation of a state-of-the-art, 258-seat performing arts facility.

To date, the Friends of the Fox group, which includes business leaders, neighbors, thespians, musicians and arts patrons, has secured more than $100,000 in pledges and donations, as well as hundreds of petition signatures toward the village’s Aug. 12 deadline.

The proposed site for the center is the former Ziegler Ace Hardware building at 118 S. First St., West Dundee.

Besides offering semiequity and community theater productions, the Fox would be a venue available to local dance companies, choirs and chamber programs, K-12 educational theater and other art showcases.

In addition to gathering petition signatures and pledges at summer events and online, Friends of the Fox will host a fundraiser, “Celebrate the Arts,” at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at OTTO Engineering, 11 W. Main St., Carpentersville. It will feature hors d’oeuvres, drinks and entertainment that celebrates the performing and visual arts.

Tickets are $25 a person or $85 for four and include food and beverage. They are available online at www.foxartscenter.com. Corporate table sponsorships also are available.
