Peavy gets All-Star nod after all

CHICAGO – Despite losing out to Texas pitcher Yu Darvish in the Final Vote to make the American League All-Star team, Jake Peavy still gets to punch his ticket to Kansas City.

Peavy was named to the AL All-Star squad Sunday replacing Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson who was ruled out of the game with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. The All-Star honor is the third of Peavy’s 11-year career and his first appearance since 2007 with the San Diego Padres, the same year he won the National League Cy Young award.

“Fantastic for him; we’re happy for him, he deserves it,” pitching coach Don Cooper said.
