Marengo-Union library plotting fundraising for move
MARENGO – The Marengo-Union library board has taken small steps toward fundraising that could cover portions, if not all, of the local costs of moving the library to a larger, renovated space on Grant Highway.
The board approved in late June a $9,000 proposal from Joe Like to help plan a fundraising campaign and train the board on how to approach potential donors. Like has spent about 20 years as a professional fundraiser, helping raise money for McHenry County College and the Newberry Library in Chicago.
“The board has actually hired him in a step-by-step process. We aren’t fully committing to all of his services,” Library Director Mary Hanson said. “It’s a gradual process. We are still defining what we want to do.”
