Objections filed in local legislative races

Third-party candidates who filed to run against Republican nominees in two local uncontested General Assembly races are facing challenges to their petitions.

Challenges have been filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections against the candidacies of Dee Beaubien, running as an Independent in the 52nd House District against David
McSweeney, and Doug Marks, running as a Libertarian against 33rd Senate District candidate Karen
McConnaughay.

McSweeney himself is named as Beaubien’s objector. Two people – Kenneth Cabay of Lake in the Hills and James Abbott of Geneva – filed objections to Marks’ petition. Only one of the eight state legislative districts that will include McHenry County after the Nov. 6 election was contested before Beaubien and Marks filed to run.
