CRYSTAL LAKE – The McHenry County Community Foundation hosts its 2012 Grants Gala Celebration from 7 to 9:30 a.m. July 23 at the Holiday Inn, 800 S. Route 31 in Crystal Lake.

Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer John Small said the organization distributed just under $400,000 to 52 local agencies – comparable to last year. However, Small acknowledged the foundation received more applications than usual, about 120.

"We want to help as many [organizations] as we can," he said. "The committee members keep a very open mind as they review applications. They give full consideration to new grant requests, too. I think they are looking for a tangible impact on helping people and helping the community."
