Storm caused $375K in damage to Dixon prison
SPRINGFIELD – Late June storms caused more than $375,000 in damage to the Dixon Correctional Center in northern Illinois.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reported that records show officials are replacing roofs on numerous buildings at the Dixon prison. They’re also installing electrical components and other machinery broken when high winds tore into the facility.
The storms forced prison officials to move almost 80 inmates living in Dixon’s psychiatric wing to the Pontiac Correctional Center while their cell house is repaired. Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman Stacey Solano said the inmates will likely return to the Lee County prison within the next few weeks.
