Come clean

To the Editor:

McHenry County College needs more space: 1. If there will be substantial future growth and; 2. If its classrooms are overflowing now.

We already know future growth will not come close to MCC’s projected 3 percent per year.  McHenry County grew only 1.7 percent per year between 2000 and 2010 and has slowed since then. The Census Bureau says the number of 15- to 24-year-olds in Illinois will decline 3 percent over the next 20 years, not grow 81 percent (3 percent compounded for 20 years).  MCC’s own enrollment is already falling, the same thing that has been happening at every elementary school in McHenry County for years.
