Joliet teen shot twice in less than a month

JOLIET (AP) – Police in Joliet are investigating after a 17-year-old girl was shot in the leg for the second time in less than a month.

The (Joliet) Herald-News (http://bit.ly/PSJuj6 ) reports that Malikha Mills was standing near a car talking with some other people Tuesday night when 10 or 12 shots rang out.

Police Cmdr. Brian Benton says Mills tried to run for cover but was shot through her right leg.

Authorities say she also was shot in the right leg on June 17 when a man opened fire at a party. A 29-year-old man is wanted in that attack but remains at large, and police believe he's left the area.

Benton says Mills told detectives she has no reason to believe she's being targeted.
