Man charged with severe neglect of bedridden wife
BROOKFIELD, Ill. — A suburban Chicago man has been accused of spending his bedridden wife's money as she deteriorated and died because of ongoing neglect.
A Cook County judge set a $75,000 bond Thursday for 50-year-old Joseph Duffy of Brookfield. He's charged with two counts of criminal abuse or neglect of a person with a disability.
The victim, Mary Jane Duffy, suffered from dementia. She received disability checks from a former employer and Social Security.
