Down electrical wires cause brush fire, temporary outage
CRYSTAL LAKE – A downed power line along Crystal Lake Avenue sparked a small brush fire and caused some businesses to lose power periodically Sunday afternoon, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue officials said.
The department was dispatched at 12:45 p.m. to the area east of Crystal Lake Avenue and Main Street to put out a half-acre-wide brush fire that developed after a power line fell. The incident did not cause injuries or property damage, said Robert Kohley, Battalion Chief of Crystal Lake Fire Rescue.
Firefighters stayed on the scene for two hours to extinguish the fire while ComEd crews worked to restore the down power line. Kohley said that businesses along the Northwest Highway were experiencing temporary outages until 2:30 p.m.
Officials have not yet determined what caused the power line to fall. No cars were involved in the incident, Kohley said.
