Third mosquito batch tests positive for West Nile

McCULLOM LAKE – A batch of mosquitoes found in McCullom Lake have tested positive for the West Nile virus less than a week after two positive reports in Fox River Grove, according to the McHenry County Department of Health.

A total of 24 other counties have reported 106 positive mosquito batches and 17 positive bird cases this year, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. There have been no human cases of the virus thus far.

One human case was reported each of the last two years in the county. Six county birds have tested negative for West Nile this year.
