D-156 likely to waive fees for Habitat

McHENRY – School District 156 leaders are likely to waive $2,091.60 in building and impact fees for a home being built within its boundaries by Habitat for Humanity of McHenry County.

The district's finance committee met Tuesday evening to discuss the waiver requested by the nonprofit, whose goal is to provide affordable homes for local families in the 30 percent to 50 percent median income range when they are unable to qualify for conventional mortgages.

David Lawson, District 156 director of finance, said committee members are inclined to grant the waiver for the 1,304-square-foot, three-bedroom home in the Lincoln Hills subdivision. Habitat has acquired four lots in the subdivision adjacent to the Liberty Trails and Eastwood Manor subdivisions.
