McHENRY – Texting while driving was the cause of a three-vehicle crash on Route 31 that sent one person to a hospital, according to the McHenry Police Department.

John H. Walkosz, 20, of Richmond, was cited for illegal use of a communication device and improper lane use in the accident Wednesday morning near the 1500 block of Route 31.

Walkosz was traveling north on Route 31 when his vehicle veered into the southbound lane and struck two vehicles, according to a news release. One of the vehicles struck a fire hydrant.
