Panel to consider charges against Ill. lawmaker
CHICAGO — Illinois lawmakers are moving closer to deciding the fate of a Chicago legislator accused of taking a bribe.
The Select Committee on Discipline meets Thursday to hear the evidence for and against Democratic Rep. Derrick Smith. Afterward, the committee votes on whether to recommend punishment, which could range from nothing to expulsion from the House.
Ultimately, the full House would have to vote on whether to take action against Smith.
