Jager sets American record in Olympic tuneup

Evan Jager headed into an IAAF Track and Field Diamond League Meet on Friday not really knowing what to expect against a new level of international competition.

He walked away from the track in Monte Carlo, Monaco, with an American steeplechase record.

The 2007 Jacobs High School graduate ran the 3,000-meter race in 8:06.81 to finish third behind Kenyans Conselus Kipruto (8:03.49) and Paul Kipsiele (8:03.90), setting a personal-best time by 11 seconds.
