Audit of McHenry evidence to remain secret

WOODSTOCK – A judge ruled Monday that prosecutors cannot release the results of an evidence locker audit performed after a McHenry police officer was accused of taking seized drug money.

Dale A. Hojnacki, 35, of McHenry, was indicted in May on theft and official misconduct charges after a routine audit revealed that money was missing. He resigned after being charged.

As a result of the allegations, McHenry police hired a police training and management firm to conduct a physical audit of the department’s evidence and property control system. The results were given to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office late last month.
